David M. Mazierski authored Chapter 28, "Medical Illustration after Gray's Anatomy: 1859-Early 2000s," where the image "Activated Platelets in Aytpical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS)" by Cynthia Turner and the image "Future Science" by Edmond Alexander are featured.
Platelet-stimulating AgentThrombopoietin (TPO) is the primary stimulator of platelet production. It binds to the extracellular domain of the thrombopoietin receptor on the surface membrane of megakaryocytes in the bone marrow. Disease caused by decreased platelet production can be augmented by platelet-stimulating agents. They activate thrombopoietin receptors by interacting with the transmembrane domains, complementing native TPO and boosting platelet production.

Circadian Rhythms, Illustrated.
"A graphic from the Scientific American archive provides a look into the brain’s molecular clock—research that contributed to this year’s Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
This morning Jeffrey Hall, Michael Rosbash, and Michael Young were awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work on circadian rhythms. How do these 24-hour internal clocks work? Here’s a peek at what’s going on in the brain at the molecular level, as drawn by Cynthia Turner for the article “The Tick-Tock of the Biological Clock,” by Michael Young (Scientific American, March 2000). Check out the full article for more graphics."

A Life Willfully Forged: embracing risk, courage, and perseverance
"Frank Armitage epitomizes the word “visual genius.” His murals, his amazing background paintings for Disney classics like Sleeping Beauty, Mary Poppins and the Jungle Book, his inside-the-body landscape paintings for Life Magazine, designs for Disney theme parks, and his Academy Award-winning set designs for the motion picture The Fantastic Voyage, are nothing short of legendary."

Interview by Varian Surgical Sciences: Cynthia Turner
Varian interviews Cynthia as their Artist-in-Residence for Varian’s “Take a Closer Look” Campaign
Varian Intranet Corporate News, 2009
A series of 7 original medical illustrations were created by artist
Photo © Varian Medical Systems
Cynthia Turner for reproduction as limited edition prints for Varian
Surgical Sciences’ TAKE A CLOSER LOOK campaign, highlighting Varian’s role in advancing Radiation Medicine for early stage lung cancer and prostate cancer treatment. The illustrations depict how Varian products work, and function as single-sheet brochures.
The illustrations were used in conjunction with marketing to two
disease-specific (lung cancer and prostate cancer) and
surgical/clinical-specific medical specialists (thoracic surgeons,
pulmonologists, thoracic radiation oncologists / urologists,
urologic radiation oncologists) at 5 conference exhibitions that
Varian Surgical Sciences attended over 6+ months. Preshow mailers
highlighting these 2 clinical targets featured Ms. Turner's work
and that she would be at the show.
The illustrations were created offsite by the artist in conjunction
with Varian’s physicists and marketing specialists, and printed on
100% rag paper with archival inks. At the shows, Ms. Turner was in
the booth and attracted attention by showing how she created this
art on her computer which was linked to and displayed by a high
luminosity light-emitting diode 10 foot wide by 8 foot high display
(like the ones used at the Beijing Summer Games) hanging from the
ceiling 15 feet above the audience. This was complimented by a
white paper on lung and prostate cancer respectively for the
individual clinical target.
The Conference Exhibitions were the 45th Annual Meeting of the Society
of Thoracic Surgeons, Moscone Center, San Francisco, California,
January 25th-27th, 2009 – 3,000 attendees; the Annual Meeting of the
American Urological Association, April 25th-28th, 2009, McCormick Center,
Chicago, Illinois – 15,000 attendees including 10,000 medical professionals;
the 13th World Conference on Lung Cancer by the International Association
for the Study of Lung Cancer, at the Moscone Center, San Francisco, California,
July 31st-August 4th, 2009 – 6,500 attendees; the 46th Meeting of the Society
of Thoracic Surgeons, Broward Convention Center, Fort Lauderdale, Florida,
January 25th-27th, 2010 - 3,000 attendees, the Annual Meeting of the American
Urological Association, Moscone Center, San Francisco, California,
May 29th-June 3rd, 2010 - 15,000 attendees.
