T Cell Activation and Tumor Cell AttackT Cell Activation and Tumor Cell AttackTumor cells produce antigens which are captured by antigen presenting cells (APCs). The APCs that activate T-Cells are usually dendritic cells because T-Cells cannot recognize or respond to free or soluble antigens but they can recognize and respond to antigens that have been processed and presented by APC dendritic cells. Once T cells undergo activation they then proliferate and migrate to the tumor cells to release apoptosis-inducing proteins.

T Cell Activation and Tumor Attack was accepted into Images from Science 3. Images from Science 3 is a collaborative experiment that initially began in 2002 at Rochester Institute of Technology, and was organized to celebrate the production of extraordinary images featuring science. At its core mission, the project seeks to explore the interface of science, technology, art, design, and communication.

Images from Science 3 showcases 82 extraordinary images from 71 image makers from 15 countries around the world. This year, in addition to still images, the exhibition will incorporate moving images using video, computer generated images (CGI), animations and illustrations. The images were selected by an international panel of experts from around the world. The show will be on view at RIT City Art Space November 1-24, 2019, then travel to Johns Hopkins University. The exhibition is available for travel to other venues, and is accompanied by a catalogue published by RIT Press.

T Cell Activation and Tumor Attack was also honored with the Print Award of Excellence by the juried 2019 RX Club Show.

Flora received the recognition of the Member's Choice Best of Show "Ralph Sweet" Award and the Advertising Award of Excellence at the 2019 Salon of the Association of Medical Illustrators, 74th Annual Meeting. Ralph Sweet was a legendary medical illustrator and founder of the medical illustration profession. He was one of the first to realize the visual conveyance of medical knowledge is a fine art.

Flora was bestowed the Print Award of Excellence by the juried 2019 RX Club Show. Founded in 1986 by Ina and Carveth Kramer, The Rx Club Show continues to honor the creative aspects of healthcare advertising and promotion. The show is judged in various categories by a panel of industry experts and is based solely on creativity. Creative concept and execution remain the only criteria for merit.

Flora was also honored with a 2019 Summit Creative Award at the Summit International Awards. Celebrating its 25th year, the Summit Creative Award has firmly established itself as the premier arbiter of creative excellence for firms small and medium sized advertising agencies worldwide and has become a coveted honor. Flora received a Silver Award in the Illustration Category. The 2019 competition included over 4,500 entries from 27 countries for which only 11% of submissions earned recognition.

“Winning a Summit Creative Award is a significant accomplishment in one's career. With vetted judges, tough judging criteria, two-phase blind judging processes, and strict bylaws limiting winners, only deserving entries receive recognition,” said Jocelyn Luciano, Managing Director for the Summit International Awards. “The creative work this year was outstanding. Watching the judges debate the details of individual entries in the run-off for the tops spots was inspiring.”

Flora also received a Platinum Award from Creativity International Design Awards in the category of Illustration: Medical. Entries came from 29 countries, 3 Canadian Provinces and 20 U.S. States. Only 45% of this year's entries won an award reflecting the competitive and excellent design submitted this year.

Cancer Assassin is one of a series of images distributed via a self-promotional marketing program to prospective clients to promote the artist’s creativity, artistry and storytelling.

The illustration is a dramatization a Cytotoxic Killer T Cell inducing a cancer cell to undergo programmed cell death known as apoptosis. These Killer T Cells are part of the body's immune response system. They are programmed to seek out, attach themselves and kill cancer cells, usually using chemicals. They recognize a specific site (antigen) on the surface of cancer cells and bind to it. The Killer T Cell then eliminates the cancer cell by releasing a protein that forms pores in the cancer cell's membrane and specifically induces apoptosis.

Cancer Assassin was bestowed the Print Award of Excellence by the juried 2019 RX Club Show. Founded in 1986 by Ina and Carveth Kramer, The Rx Club Show continues to honor the creative aspects of healthcare advertising and promotion. Bispecific Monoclonal AntibodyBispecific Monoclonal AntibodyA bispecific monoclonal antibody is engineered to simultaneously bind to a cytotoxic cell and a targeted tumor cell.

A bispecific monoclonal antibody is an artificial protein that is composed of fragments of two different monoclonal antibodies so it can bind to two different types of antigens. In cancer immunotherapy the bispecific monoclonal antibody is engineered to simultaneously bind to a cytotoxic cell and to a targeted tumor cell identified to be destroyed.

The antibody is showcased on the bilayer membrane of a macrophage, with its bispecific "smart bombs" ready to bind to its designated antigens.

This art received the recognition of the Member's Choice Best of Show Ralph Sweet Award and the Advertising and Marketing Award of Merit at the 2015 Salon of the Association of Medical Illustrators, 70th Annual Meeting in Cleveland, OH, and the Print Award of Excellence at the 2015 29th Annual Rx Club Show at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York, NY.
