Medical Illustration

Cynthia is a certified medical illustrator and a Fellow of the Association of Medical Illustrators. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Colorado State University, 1979, and a Master of Arts in Medical Illustration from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, 1982.

Her work was selected to exhibit in the juried Art of Medicine Exhibition, Society of Illustrators, New York, 1987, is included in the annual juried RxClub Show - Best in Medical Advertising and the annual exhibitions of the Association of Medical Illustrators. She was honored by Johnson & Johnson with a one-man show of The Medical Art of Cynthia Turner, Johnson & Johnson Corporate Traveling Exhibit, 1993.

Cynthia was selected as the artist for a limited edition print to selected recipients celebrating research, development and implementation of the Hemopump Artificial Heart, 1993. She was then selected as the artist of unique digital edition prints for selected worldwide recipients commemorating research, development and implementation of the Palmaz Coronary Stent, 1995. Cynthia was Artist-in-Residence for Ciba-Geigy to produce an on-site poster size illustration of beta-blocker Lopressor's mode-of-action at the 1989 42nd Annual International Scientific Meeting of the American Heart Association in New Orleans. The illustration was later distributed as a limited edition print.

Cynthia, and her partner Edmond Alexander, served as Clinical Art Directors and Illustrators for the print journal Illustrated Medicine, 1987 - 1994. Working directly with leading research scientists, physicians and surgeons, Cynthia and Edmond designed and created illustrations showcasing the latest advances in cardiology, diagnostic medicine and urology. Cynthia joined with Edmond to form the Alexander & Turner Medical Illustration Studio in 1984, where they create medical illustration for medical publishers, pharmaceutical and biotech companies and their agencies.

Cynthia is the recipient of numerous awards, including Certificate of Merit, The Invanz Spectrum, Association of Medical Illustrators, 2002; Best of Show, GastroEsophageal Reflux, Association of Medical Illustrators, 2001; and 1st Award, Best Medical Color, Hypercholesterolemia, Association of Medical Illustrators, 1989.

Cynthia is a Founding Member and serves on the Board of Directors of the Illustrators' Partnership of America, a professional rights management organization dedicated to protecting illustrator members' intellectual property rights and creating collective licensing mechanisms for those rights.
